Timothy Prentice graduated in 1990 with distinction from Art Center College of Design in the Transportation program in Pasadena, CA, and from Chico State University in 1987 with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. After graduation from Art Center, he worked for Honda R&D in Los Angeles and Asaka Japan, as senior designer developing concept and production designs of motorcycles, ATVs, and personal watercraft. Concurrent with Honda motorcycle design, he was an instructor at Art Center for 4 years, teaching industrial design and illustration classes. He has also guest lectured at Art Center Europe and Stanford University's design and engineering programs.
In 1994, he became an independent design consultant and began teaming up with such clients as Yamaha, HotRods by Boyd, Oakley, Frogdesign, Honda(automotive and motorcycle divisions), James Parker/RADD, and Motorcyclist magazine. From 1995-2000 he also became involved in the entertainment industry in Hollywood and worked as a special FX Art Director for Rhythm & Hues Studios, Digital Domain, and Dreamquest/Disney studios designing and directing special FX scenes for film and television.
From 1999 on, he has been focused on motorcycle concept development and production design, working with Honda R&D in Los Angeles as a contributing design consultant on various projects, including the NAS, Valkyrie Rune, Rincon, F12 Aquatrax, and VTX models.
In 2003-04, Timothy Prentice was involved with Indian Motorcycles, and shortly thereafter established a relationship with Triumph Motorcycles in the UK. The first production model from this collaboration is the 2008 Rocket III Touring, and in 2009 the Thunderbird 1600 and Bonneville SE were released.In 2010, several more models, including Speed Triple, America, Speedmaster, RIII Roadster were addedto the growing list of projects designed by Tim Prentice of Motonium Design, Inc.
During spring 2006, Timothy Prentice founded MOTONIUM DESIGN, INC. to establish a more complete design service. Based in Los Angeles, MOTONIUM DESIGN, INC. services include product/lineup/strategy planning, project management, 2D sketches and renderings, full scale clay model development, 3D CAD surfacing, and complete hard model fabrication, with clients in Japan, Europe and the US.
