International MotoGP championship leader Casey Stoner unveiled the Swann Insurance Motorcycle of the Future concept in Sydney on 2 August 2007. The concept showcases best practice in motorcycle design for safety, security and repairability.
Swann Insurance is part of Insurance Australia Group, which is a member of the Motorcycle Design Association. Stoner was also named Motorcycle Safety Ambassador with Swann Insurance, which is one of Australia’s leading providers of motorcycle insurance with over 40 years of experience.
Swann Insurance has sponsored Casey Stoner’s international racing career since 2004. Stoner has won six MotoGP races this year – Qatar, Turkey, China, Catalunya, Great Britain and USA. He is currently leading the 2007 MotoGP championship competition with 221 points. The Motorcycle of the Future concept was developed by Tim Cameron, a member of the Motorcycle Design Association and one of Australia’s leading independent motorcycle design consultants. Swann Insurance recognises that motorcycles are often designed with little consideration given to the frequency of accidents, the cost of repairs and the chance of theft. The Motorcycle of the Future concept shows that good design and the adoption of readily available technology can make motorcycles safer to ride, cheaper to repair and easier to secure. The concept shows that exciting and dynamic motorcycles can incorporate state-of-the-art safety features and can also be less vulnerable to damage. Some of the key safety elements of the Motorcycle of the Future include blind spot warning sensors, anti-lock brakes, traction control, tyre pressure warning and hill start assistance. Features to improve security include an ignition immobiliser, microdot VIN coding and keyless start/stop. Features to reduce repair costs include an accidental tipover warning device, a parking proximity warning system and ablative protection for expensive components.
