Massimo Tamburini, joint-founder of Bimota, designer of the Ducati 916 and MV Agusta F4, and now chief of CRC, has been awarded the first Honorary Membership of the Motorcycle Design Association.
An engraved plaque was presented to Tamburini recently by a small delegation from the MDA, who were treated to a rare tour of CRC and MV Special Parts in San Marino. MDA Vice-president Glynn Kerr explains, "There was no difficulty deciding who should receive the MDA's first Honorary Membership. Massimo Tamburini has created some of the world's most exciting bikes, and inspired a whole generation of designers".
Despite his many achievements, this was the first award Tamburini had ever received directly. "This is a great honour", he said at the presentation. "The MDA is an excellent idea - it is important that motorcycle designers have a central body, which can provide contact and information between students, colleges, designers and the bike industry". As well as giving his personal support to the association, Tamburini confirmed that CRC will join the seventeen companies already registered as MDA Corporate Members, including Buell, Ducati, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda.
